I was watching pt. one of Ken Burn's Civil War documentary and came to an understanding about politics and the masses.
The first, which I had previously realized, but never put to paper; is that man is an irrational being that is merely capable of rational thought. Additionally: The will of the mob often shows our base character and will dispense with all reason, fact, history, or reality and will shun to the violent extreme all dissent or contrary thought that it can not use or incorporate.
The second: Is that any idea that can not survive mockery is suspect. (This is shamelessly stolen and I can't remember from whom)
The third, and the most damning: Is the realization, or at least the re-affirmation, that parties (especially large parties) are fundamentally evil and the bane of a republican democracy - Washington was right in is farewell address. It is true: 435men can be a greater tyrant than one! The mass is easer swayed by the mob and convictions get lost in compromised to the extent that they are lost until the next election. At that point those in Congress scramble to recall what they ran on in the previous election or attempt to justify what they have done and spin it until the public and remember them selves.
Even worse is the simple fact that elected member must ultimately swear two oaths: one to the United States and one to the party at large. When ever that occurs the nation as a whole suffers.
The immigration debate is an excellent example. Her millions have broken the law; exploited the system and our good, giving nature nature; demanded that we accommodate them, transfered our wealth to their (mostly socialist) homes; and created and over whelming situation were drugs, crime and those whose sworn goal is to kill all is infidels and stream into this nation lost in the great wave of the (semi-)down trodden. The parties gave decided to ignore the fact
that the las are not being vigorously enforced and are attempting to fine a least offensive way of dealing with the problem (if at all) and hope to add those directly affected to their own mob.
Next: A house divided....
